Works by Paper Folding Artist Tatiana Nelson
Tatiana Nelson-Joseph is a Baltimore, Maryland-based sculptor who creates in-the-round and relief paper-based sculpture. Her process is partially drawn from traditional methods of pattern making from the handbag and shoe industry along with self-directed study of geometry, architecture, and origami. Fully 3D pieces are often folded out of one continuous sheet of paper, while relief pieces are constructed by assembling individually hand folded paper patterns into larger compositions that morph as they cover the surface. Paper is often laminated with other papers and sometimes fabric to provide structure and texture. Tatiana’s compositions reference natural forms and the built environment. The resulting designs range from geometrically complex to paired back minimal statements
