Miller graduated from the Maryland Institute of Art in 1959. As a student of Jacques Maroger, Ann D. Schuler, and Earl Hofmann, he became interested in the mediums and techniques of the 15th - 18th century Flemish and Italian Masters, and he has assisted Franklin Redelius in the research of those masters. The Maryland Institute of Art awarded him an honorary BFA degree in 1996. He was a member of the "6 Realists of Baltimore" 1961 - 1963.
