WEEK AT A GLANCE

Students in ToneLab will experience the thrill of making music together through songwriting! Students will learn the fundamental techniques of writing lyrics, melodies, harmonies, and musical accompaniment, combining all of these elements together to create songs of their own. With the guidance of Common Tone teachers, students will be given artistic control over their preferred musical genre, arrangement style, and sonic identity, which will encourage collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. At the end of the session, each student will have a song that fully represents their artistic vision and a chance to perform for a small audience. Join us this summer and find your voice through song!

Introduction to Block Printing with Critter Critter Creations

Wednesday, August 12 • 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM

During this introductory class on block printing, students will learn the basic process of block printing with linoleum blocks by hand. Instead of using a press, students will use other methods and tools to create a successful print from their own original design on their blocks. Students will come away from the class with a block that can be printed again and again and a finished print. There will also be the option of creating greeting cards. Best for ages 14+

Beginner Woodworking: Planter

Thursday, August 13 • 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Tis the season for gardening! Wouldn't it be cool to show off your plants in a planter that you've made yourself? Participants will learn how to use the miter saw and adjoin cedar wood to make a structure for a plant approx. 14 x 14".

Reptile Extravaganza

Sunday, August 16 • 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Join Jordan Weinstein of the Maryland School of Falconry for a Reptile Extravaganza! Learn all about different species of reptiles and get an up close and personal experience with a variety of snakes, turtles, and lizards. Participants will have the unique opportunity to handle a snake pose for a memorable photo at the end of class.

Please Note:

Children under 8 may attend using the $55 add-on option, but are not permitted to handle the reptiles.

Highway Junkie Tour with Andy Thomas

There’s a heaviness when you listen to Andy Thomas’ latest album, Highway Junkie. Not only from the swamp rock meets honkytonk melodies, but also the underlying tone and hard truths of this whirlwind journey of a singer-songwriter pushing into the next phase of his promising career.

“It’s crazy when you set everything aside and put your mind to something,” Thomas says. “I’m a hard worker, and this album is a product of that.”

Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Thomas has worked his way up the ranks as an electrifying guitarist up and down the East Coast, whether it’s fronting his own wild-n-out project The Trongone Band or being the six-string rocket fuel for the melodic muscle car that is acclaimed Americana act Yarn.

“I’ve known for a long time that I was wired for this life,” Thomas says of being a musician and performer. “[The road and the stage] feels like home for me. I love playing, traveling, and getting the inspiration to write — it’s where I feel most at peace.”

Produced by fellow Richmond native and longtime friend Dave Schools, the legendary bassist for Widespread Panic, and captured at the renowned Spacebomb Studios, Highway Junkie connects the dots of Thomas’ troubled past and hard-fought strength of self in the present.
