Manor Mill Unplugged acoustic evening

Manor Mill Unplugged

Monthly acoustic open mic at The Loft

2nd Sunday of each month5:30 PMThe LoftFree · Donations welcome

About Manor Mill Unplugged

Manor Mill Unplugged is a monthly acoustic music gathering held on the second Sunday of each month at 5:30 PM. It's a free event where musicians of all levels come together to share songs in an intimate, supportive setting.

Bring a dish to share and BYOB is welcome. The Loft is accessible via the interior or rear entrance. Parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged.

Performance Guidelines

Here’s everything you need to know to ensure a fun and smooth experience for everyone:

Performance Time:

Each musician gets up to two songs or 10 minutes of stage time. If time permits after everyone has performed, you might get a chance to play an additional song.

Tune Up in Advance:

Please make sure your instruments are tuned before your performance to keep things running smoothly.

Song Selection:

We love hearing original songs, but cover tunes are great too. Share what inspires you!

Embrace Mistakes:

If you hit a wrong note or forget a lyric, no worries! Just keep going from where you left off. That’s the point of an open mic. We’re all here to support each other.

Stay and Support:

Stick around to enjoy the other performances. You’ll likely hear some fantastic music and get inspired with new ideas for your own performances.

Let’s make memorable afternoons filled with music and camaraderie!

Parking is limited, so carpool if you’re able. Access the Loft from inside Manor Mill or around the back.

A Note from Your Host

Years ago, there was an amazing open mic in New Freedom, PA called the Wagon Shed. It was held above the stringed instrument repair shop of my good friend Amy Hopkins (who runs the monthly old-time music jam at Manor Mill). We met there monthly to share acoustic music and food. Musicians, from professionals to young people just starting out, came from all over to play their songs and listen, creating a community that welcomed everyone, encouraging collaboration and friendship. More recently, I’ve been involved with a monthly open mic and weekly song circle in Catonsville hosted by Rick Sambuco of the Baltimore County Arts Guild. I’ve enjoyed the music and friendship of many new friends there.

I’d like to start an event to bring these two communities together. My hope is that we can gather once a month at Manor Mill in Monkton to celebrate our community, and support local musicians of all kinds from Baltimore to York, PA.

To start, I’m thinking we’ll try an unplugged gathering – no mics, no amps. It’ll be a work in progress!

A big thanks to the owners and staff of Manor Mill for making this possible, and to you for making this gathering a reality!

David Dilworth

Graphic artist and musician Dave Dilworth was never one to pick one kind of music and stick with it. When young, he listened with a single earplug hooked to a transistor radio late at night from faraway cities when he was supposed to be sleeping. He began filing away tunes for reference. Later, while attending the University of Maryland in College Park, Dave discovered WHFS radio in Bethesda, which played literally all types of music. That spoiled him forever and he soaked it up like a sponge. Dave delights in letting other people hear music that excites him—especially if it's music they might not have heard before.
