<p>Join us for September Prose Night! We are pleased to welcome two authors, Celia Bell and Leah Redmond Chang. After their readings, host Susan Keatley will moderate a discussion on their research and writing process in fiction (Bell) and nonfiction (Chang). We’ll then break for book sales and signing and mingling. Snacks will be provided and BYOB.</p><p><strong>September authors:</strong></p><p><strong>Celia Bell</strong><br>Celia Bell's first novel is The Disenchantment, published by Pantheon Books. Her short fiction and essays have appeared in VQR, The White Review, The Rumpus, Sewanee Review, and various other venues. She lives in Philadelphia.</p><p><strong>Leah Redmond Chang<br></strong>Leah Redmond Chang's writing focuses on women and power. She was trained as a literature scholar, and her books draw on her extensive research in the archives and in rare book libraries. Before turning to writing full time, she was a tenured professor of French Literature and Culture at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. She has also been an Honorary Senior Research Associate at University College London.</p><p>Her most recent book, Young Queens: The Intertwined Lives of Catherine de' Medici, Elisabeth de Valois, and Mary, Queen of Scots (Bloomsbury; Farrar, Straus and Giroux) was named among the 'Best Books of 2023' by The Nen Yorker and 'Best Biographies of 2023' by BookRiot. Young Queens was longlisted for the inaugural Women's Prize for Non-Fiction and was a finalist for The Los Angeles Times Book Prize (Biography).</p><p>Leah's also runs the Substack newsletter Primary Text, which explores women's stories through the letters and objects they left behind.</p><p>Leah lives with her husband, three children, and two dogs in Washington, DC, and spends as much time as possible in London and Paris, her favorite cities.</p>
